We welcome your interest in Ascension Catholic School, and we invite you to tour our school with a school parent or faculty member.  Prospective students may also spend some time in our classrooms. To arrange a tour or a time for your child to shadow, please call the school office at 913-851-2531.

The mission of Ascension School focuses on providing a quality Catholic education and formation for as many children of our parish community as possible. The primary prerequisite for families wishing to enroll and maintain enrollment is the family’s commitment to be responsible stewards by being active and supportive members of Ascension Parish, a responsibility which involves the following: a) participation in the weekend Mass, including regular attendance at Ascension Parish, b) involvement in the parish through active service to the parish and/or school community, and c) financial support for the parish and its ministries through an annual financial stewardship commitment and regular financial contributions in proportion to income received.  New families need to give evidence of their past and current commitment to stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. Questions regarding the stewardship expectations for parishioners may be addressed to the parish Director of Stewardship at the parish office (681-3348).

Schools in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas admit students of any ability, race, and national or ethnic origin to all the rights, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at all schools.  New students will be enrolled in the following order:

  1. Length of membership in the parish and long-time evidence of parish stewardship
  2. Newer families in the parish with evidence from previous parish of active time, talent, and treasure support
  3. Longer term parishioners with little evidence of parish stewardship but who are committed to becoming parish stewards
  4. Non-parish Catholic families who commit to pay tuition
  5. Families who are not Catholic who commit to pay tuition

Prospective kindergartners should be five years old by August 31 of the year they will begin school; exceptions are made for parish families, but only in rare cases.  Parents who wish to enroll their children in Ascension Catholic School are invited to an informational session, typically scheduled in the last week of  January.  During the screening process in March, one of our teachers will administer a standardized kindergarten entrance test and observe the children in a small group setting.  Results are sent home to parents approximately two weeks following the screening.  The information gathered helps us to determine a child’s readiness for kindergarten and the skills which need to be developed before school begins in August.
